“Immerse yourself in flowers, become one with the garden” is the motto of the new exhibition the Floating Flower Garden by TeamLab. TeamLab is a famous interdisciplinary group of artists based here in Tokyo. The group refers to themselves as “Ultra-technologists,” and consists of artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects. They create interactive digital artwork which is based on the concept of borderless, and integrates advanced technologies. I have been to many of their exhibitions both here in Japan and also in Singapore, but this new exhibition is something I’ve seen for the first time! Their work is usually more or less digital, but this floating flower garden consists of a three-dimensional mass of real flowers. People immerse themselves in flowers, becoming one with the garden. The flowers in this artwork are orchids, because orchids are able to grow without soil by absorbing water from the air. They also have the most variety of any plant. It i…
