Happy Lantern Festival 元宵节Since 2000 years this Chinese festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar calendar and it ends up the Chinese New Year. Typically it celebrates family reunions but some also call it the “true” Chinese Valentine’s Day. You may ask why? Because in Ancient China, women usually weren’t allowed to leave the house. Only on this night, they can stroll freely, lighting lanterns, playing games and interacting with men. That’s why some say the Lantern Festival is the true Chinese Valentine’s Day.During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night carrying paper lanterns. Fireworks and lion dances can be seen on the streets and Chinese usually eat tāng yuan (汤圆) a glutinous rice dumpling with sweet filling made of syrup, red bean paste, black sesame, custard or more. That’s what I will eat today too Any plans for lantern festival? #lanternfestival #lanternfestival2021 #lanternfestivalchina #china #chinesefestival #expatinchi…
