As a Public Health expert (MPH ‘19 ), I’m constantly checking the news and listening to podcasts about the latest developments. I’m worried and hopeful at the same time. In February we thought it’d pass through like the flu. But people kept getting sick, the elderly and immunocompromised were passing. Im scared because of the hard facts. People are panic buying, the government didn’t take anything serious until now. The Imperial College pandemic modeling white paper discussed 80% of the US population affected and deaths up to 250k in Great Britain and 1.1-1.2 million in the US if no actions were made. We’re experiencing a sigmoidal increase in cases springing globally. More than 140 countries have at least one case. If unchecked, suppression measures could happen sporadically for 18 months until a vaccine gets developed. Everything just seems apocalypti…
